Celebrate Every Day

Every day there is a victory- a discovery, a connection, or a completed task.  At the end of each day, my partner and I reflect on these special moments, always finding something to celebrate.

We are both starting new businesses simultaneously, and we offer each other endless support. High fives and big hugs!  On this journey the good days outweigh the bad.  I always find something in my day to be positive about.

Recently, I've celebrated several milestones: creating my website, growing my network, applying for grants and accelerator programs. Reaching out to co-packers around the US and learning their lingo, connecting with race directors to sponsor their races, establishing Hull-some Foods brand guidelines, committing to the PSU Capstone program for the summer term, completing the final draft of my business plan, and recognizing that it is a work in progress.

Some days I am doing physically demanding work, such as giving massages, while other days are spent mostly at my computer.  I remind myself the importance of work-life balance is good, and the need to take care of my body. I must go for runs, and do strength and stretching exercises to alleviate the tension that builds in my shoulders from spending countless hours in front of my computer.  Every day that I am healthy and can run is an incredible day.

Earlier this year, I ran an ultra called the Wild Florida 50K. It was surprisingly hilly, and my quadriceps felt overloaded.  It was a tough race for me, but I still achieved a PR, my fastest 50k in six years, and I was stoked that my training had paid off.  I finished that race feeling fired up, and ready for my next race!

However, two days later, my knee swelled up and I could barely walk. Through physical therapy, bodywork and proper nutrition, I recovered quickly, though it was still a very long 12 weeks wondering if I would ever feel "normal" again.

The body can do incredible things with proper training and self- care.  I walked away from that injury stronger and smarter.  For that, I celebrate every day I am healthy and all of my accomplishments, big or small.  Each victory makes me proud to be who I am.
